Not so beautiful beginnings can lead to better tomorrows.
Hey, welcome to my family foodie life. I'm Liz, a proud mother who is also known as loganspersonalchef. I do the cooking, eating the leftovers, and filling the tummies of my beautiful little family. You might think by browsing through a few of my social media platforms that I'm just another "foodie" wannabe, but in actuality, the kitchen saved my life.
My not-so-beautiful beginning to all of this wonderful foodie madness, started with my need to bring myself back to reality, to stop allowing outside noise to carelessly break me, and to take accountability for my own happiness. I was suffering from postpartum depression. I thought "Why? Why does this have to happen to me? During what should be one of the most amazing years of my life!" It was about 1 year and a 1/2 since I was given the honor of becoming my wonderful son's mother, but there were other factors that made this what should be special experience, difficult. These factors or issues specifically dealt with family boundaries, but the details shall remind private within my family for now. It really tore and wore me down. It tainted the dream of what I hoped motherhood would be like, because
I was starting to let the noise define who I was as a person, a life partner, and a mother.
My purpose was practically shaken, and I was as lost as new high-school graduate entering the world of adulthood. Yet, here I was, an already experienced adult. I was an adult with a college degree (which I no longer practice), going through a sudden career change which quickly threw me off balance, and then finding myself at a standstill in life trying my best to take in every second that shouldn't be taken for granted as a new mother. My mental health had finally taken a toll on my physical health, which in turn led to continuous sharp, aching stomach pains that I could no longer ignore. I was on the verge of a health crisis that in that moment, had forced me to take a better look at my daily eating habits and routines.
I knew at that point, that the combination of my mental state, poor eating habits as well as physical activeness were the perfect storm to nearly bring me to the ER. I also knew continuing to hurt myself by reliving the past would prevent me from healing. It would keep me from becoming the best version of myself for me and my family. It was time I let go of my pains, emotionally and physically. In my heart, I knew Logan deserved a mother who gives her best and is her best. Not only did my son deserve a better me, but so did my life partner, Logan's wonderful father, Neeks.

My everythings.
New Changes That Brought Me Back to Life
I remember exactly how I felt the morning after. I was actually afraid to eat ANYTHING from the top to the very bottom of our kitchen pantry and refrigerator. Everything frightened me. I was questioning each food item in my kitchen, certain it would bring me closer to having another health emergency. So what did I do? I packed up the baby bag and headed straight to the grocery store with Logan. I was on a mission to refresh our entire kitchen from head to toe, with the better food choices I had deprived me and my family of for far too long.
I bought an absurd amount of fresh veggies, which in my mind, were enough to feed an acre full of farm animals. I stocked up on some fridge staples (eggs, milk...etc.) and even some healthier snack options such as fruits for Logan and myself to enjoy.
A Second Life
Soon the weeks turned into months. I noticed something changing within me. I was happier. Neeks and my son were both happier because they were happy that I was HAPPY. Logan always fed off of my energy, and he always knew something was wrong when I'd try to hide it with a very poor smile. Every tear I've ever cried, were always met with his precious, tiny, little loving hands. He gave me endless hugs and kisses. That boy was and is my life.
I was lucky that I was able to step off my path of depression, that was quickly spiraling downwards. I am saddened when I remember how this all came about, but I do not regret the changes I've made for my family and for myself. We now all eat better, feel better, and have fun in the kitchen together. Every meal that I make, brings a smile to my family and that will never get old to me.
This new passion for all things food related, is the reason why I am able to to feel like me again. A real person. A person who is able to live again, love my life again, smile and laugh again. Instead of tormenting myself daily, asking the question "Why this life?" I was given the gift of this second life. The kitchen saved me. Little did I know that I would soon begin this new life journey as loganspersonalchef.
